Technological Advancements

   

Technological Advancements are different productions of information and discovery of knowledge that were produced to attempt to further contribute or innovate the current technology that mankind possesses. This includes different devices and innovations of existing devices in order to further extend the technological knowledge of mankind and help their everyday lives become easier. 

Why did I chose this social problem/issue?

Our generation faced different technological advancements throughout the years and as a person that benefited with these advancements. Due to this, the use of the different technologies heavily increased and in this modern day, it is already a part of our everyday lives. However, technological advancements have its drawbacks especially to our environment since it has some negative effects and it needs to be spread to further aware people.

Some of the negative effects include technotrash. Technotrash, which is also called electronic waste, are any broken electrical or electronic gadgets and appliances that are being thrown away wrongly and it is increasing at an alarming rate. Usually, electronic devices contain non-biodegradable materials that if thrown just like a normal trash, ends up in our landfill. 

Another negative effect is Environmental pollution in the form of air, water and noise pollution. Air pollution since large industries emmits large quantities of gases such as CO2, which are harmful. Water pollution because some industries dispose of waste on  rivers and water systems which harms our bodies of water. And noise pollution since most industries produce loud noises in production. 

Possible Solutions 

What we can do as a solution is to be more cautious in the wastes that we throw away, especially if it is electronic devices. It is best to practice proper waste management if we have a technotrash. Also, large industries can be advised to execute proper waste management and stop throwing their industrial wastes in our bodies of water to prevent water pollution. This way, we can help reduce the adverse effects of technological advancements in our environment.

How can we spread Awareness?

The use of the internet, specifically through social media, can be the platform to spread awareness since people nowadays are more active on the internet. With this, we can, not only, spread the information faster, but also inform the whole world about the adverse effect of technological advancements in our environment.
